San Simeon Syrah (Limited Bottling), Paso Robles, 2004
The highly versatile Syrah grape is grown in many climates, but the coastal microclimate of the Pretty Penny Vineyard is ideal for the development of intense flavors and aromas, such as boysenberry, ripe plum, and pomegranate. Our family’s dedication to quality continues in the cellar, where winemakers Anthony Riboli and Arnaud Debons employ traditional techniques to preserve the individual flavors or terroir of each parcel of land. All vineyard lots are fermented separately in small, open-top tanks in which the cap is “punched down” in order to delicately extract color without creating excessive tannins. After fermentation, the wine is aged in French and American oak barrels for 24 months. Our Syrah reveals deep color, round tannins, and plush mouthfeel. The lengthy finish shows vanilla, oak spice, and cinnamon nuances from barrel aging.

San Simeon Pinot Gris, Monterey , 2006
Traditionally grown in the region of Alsace in Northern France, Pinot Gris thrives in the cool coastal climate of the Arroyo Seco appellation. Our estate Loma Vista Vineyard is planted with multiple clones. A majority of this wine is cold-fermented at 50-55º F in stainless steel tanks to preserve the natural fruit characters of the grape. A smaller percentage is fermented in neutral oak barrels at 60º F. The lees are stirred within the barrels to add richness and body. San Simeon Pinot Gris reveals aromas of citrus with hints of wildflowers. The mouth is filled with ripe fruit flavors, including melon and green apples. Natural acidity gives structure to this full-bodied wine.
